What American Accent Do You Have?

Lots of much more serious stuff is habiting my mind and I will be wanting to share some of it with you in the near future, but let's just have some fun for tonight.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

The Midland

Boston

North Central

The Inland North

Philadelphia

The South

The Northeast

What American accent do you have?
Quiz Created on GoToQuiz

Well, guess where I'm from? Grew up in Washington State until I was age 18. Lived in California from then until I was 40. Occasionally, though, people have asked if my accent (what accent?) is Midwestern or European (Irish maybe?...though ever so slight: the accent, that is, not the Irish, which I'm proud of).

Feel free to try the quiz for yourself and to share the results with us.

Hat tip to Alexandra at her Happy Hearts at Home blog.

And my apologies to whomever I got the "What Kind of Muffin Are You?" quiz from, the other day. Sometimes I wander from blog to link and forget where I've been. At least if I wander off when I'm on the internet, I know I can always click the X and find my way home. (Just kidding. I'm really not in the habit of getting lost in real life, only in this "virtual life".)

What Kind of Muffin Are You?

I always hesitate to post things like this because...when you read the first two lines, you will see why... But, just for fun, just to step out of my over-seriousness, I share this with you. Try it yourself, if you'd like, by clicking on the link at the end. You might be as surprised as I was at how accurate the results seem to be.

You Are a Bran Muffin

Some people have accused you of being all work and no play. And that does describe you most of the time.

You are very career oriented. When you're not working making money, you're working to improve yourself.

You have very little room in your life for fluff. You want to live as good of a life as possible.

You are competitive and driven. You like to surround yourself with other motivated people.

While you are a go-getter, you are by no means self centered. Quite the opposite.

You are a caring, together, and stable friend. You are grounded enough to be there for people.

What Time of Day Are You?

Just for fun, I took this quiz:

You Are Sunrise

You enjoy living a slow, fulfilling life. You enjoy living every moment, no matter how ordinary.

You are a person of reflection and meditation. You start and end every day by looking inward.

Caring and giving, you enjoy making people happy. You're often cooking for friends or buying them gifts.

All in all, you know how to love life for what it is - not for how it should be.

What Flavor Ice Cream Are You?

You Are Strawberry Ice Cream

A bit shy and sensitive, you are sweet to the core.

You often find yourself on the outside looking in.

Insightful and pensive, you really understand how the world works.

You are most compatible with chocolate chip ice cream.

This, of course, was just for fun. I don't know how different these quizzes are from reading a fortune cookie. Just random? But hey, at least the ice cream is pink!

Mother Hen

At the moment, I'm feeling more like a sick chick (maybe some Lenten sacrifices will improve my overall health).

But here's the kind of mother hen these folks say I am:

States I Have Visited

create your own visited states map
or check out these Google Hacks.

The red indicates states I have visited at some time in my life. Are you jealous? Don't be. Please. First of all, I've lived more than half a century. Secondly, when I was a young adult (barely), I moved away from my parents. Then I moved away from my childhood best friend of eleven years (we had gone together to what turned out to be a cult; but that's another whole story). At one point my husband got relocated and we moved half way across the country from his mom who was our next door neighbor, and his sister and family who lived in a nearby town. And then a couple years ago, for my husband to get a job, we moved several states away from our three young adult kids. My heart has been torn to pieces many times.

Here's a funny thing about moving clear across country, all the way from growing up in Washington State to now living in Baltimore. Yesterday our youngest son asked me when it was that we went to Washington. I said, "Well, last summer we went to Arlington National Cemetery." (Actually I said, "the cemetery".) He said, "I meant your Washington!" Oh, my. When we moved here, I knew I was going to hear people say "Washington" when they meant "Washington D.C." but I wasn't going to think that way. I guess it's kind of like adopting a foreign language or the culture of a region.

And yes, some of those states were visited briefly enroute to a move, but some of it has been recreational travel, too, and I am grateful for all those opportunities to see the wide world of the United States. It's all good. And God is so good to us.

P.S. When I published this post, the right hand side of the map got cut off. I guess the map needs a wide berth. Well, I will have to just tell you, then - and I should be saying this for those who can't see the map anyway - my total is about 34 states.

What Personality Type Are You?

You Are An ESFJ

The Caregiver

You are sympathetic and caring, putting friends and family first.

A creature of habit, you prefer routines and have trouble with change.

You love being in groups - whether you're helping people or working on a project.

You are good at listening, laughing, and bringing out the best in people.

In love, you value harmony and mutual understanding.

You will apologize or give someone the benefit of the doubt, if it means getting over a fight sooner.

At work, you are good at building relationships and connecting with people.

You would make a great nurse, social worker, or teacher.

How you see yourself: Organized, dependable, co-operative

When other people don't get you, they see you as: Opinionated, critical, and know-it-all

From my previous studies of the sixteen personality types, this turned out to be a surprisingly accurate test. The only one I wasn't sure I agreed with was the "S" (sensor), as I thought I was an "N" (intuitive). I'm not sure how this quiz tests for this aspect. (I even tried taking it a second time to see if I could change the results on that. But I came out the same both times.)

If you take this quiz, I would love to see your results. Please leave us a link in the combox.

And may you have a peaceful preparation for the Birth of Jesus, as we draw nearer to the celebration of His birth!

I don't know who the people are who composed it or starred in it, but I enjoyed it and I hope you do too.

What Christmas Ornament Are You?

You Are a Snowman

Friendly and fun, you enjoy bringing holiday cheer to everyone you know!

Pretty neat, except I wonder... If I'd been able to answer the question the way I wanted to answer it, about what you would want to do when it snows (I'd want to go out and shovel it) how the results would have come out.

Blog Readability Level

cash advance

Get a Cash Advance

Well, whad'ya know? Who'd have thought? My blog's readability is college level? Y'all know I didn't go to college, right? Of course, I probably shouldn't be telling you this about the reading level, as good writers don't try to use big words, they try to use the simplest word that gets the point across. Hmm, maybe it was the 23rd Psalm that affected the reading level. (I wonder what would happen if I tried this again in a week.)

Anyway, it was fun! (And I did it, of course, "just for fun".)

What Kind of Reader are You?

What Kind of Reader Are You?
Your Result: Obsessive-Compulsive Bookworm

You're probably in the final stages of a Ph.D. or otherwise finding a way to make your living out of reading. You are one of the literati. Other people's grammatical mistakes make you insane.

Dedicated Reader
Book Snob
Literate Good Citizen
Fad Reader
Non-Reader
What Kind of Reader Are You?
Create Your Own Quiz

I don't know why I came out as an obsessive-compulsive bookworm. After all, I don't have my head in a book all day; some of the time I'm on the computer doing research or checking out blogs. And I don't read whole books at grocery stores, only a few pages...well, most of the time. If I have a reason to be there every day, I might read a few pages today and a few tomorrow until I've finally completed the book. I don't buy magazines at the checkstand; I just look for the longest line so I can read an article or two. When I receive book catalogs, I don't buy all the books, you know. I just read the "blurbs" so I'll know what the books are about and who is writing what. Naw, I'm not an obsessive-compulsive bookworm. Am I?

On the serious side: As a writer, I am fully aware that someone needs to buy the books and magazines! And I do buy some...according to my means and priorities. I wasn't telling you that you "ought to" read books and magazines for free. I'm just telling you that yes, I'm obsessive-compulsive about reading! And by the way, I put them back in the same condition I find them in. If I accidentally did something to injure a book, I would buy it without hesitation, even if I hadn't otherwise planned to buy it. As a matter of fact, I got one of my favorite books that way when I spilled a drop of hot chocolate within its pages at a Barnes and Noble.

What Kind of Breakfast Are You? Quiz

You Are Toast

Old fashioned and a bit of a homebody, you totally go for comfort food.

You're the type who loves to cook for friends, and they love you for it.

You truly know what tastes good, and you can often pick out the best dish at a restaurant.

You don't fall for food trends. You stick with what's been food for a long time!

What Season Are You?

You Belong in Spring

Optimistic, lively, and almost always happy with the world...

You can truly appreciate the blooming nature of spring.

Whether you're planting flowers or dyeing Easter eggs, spring is definitely your season!

Amazingly, this is my favorite season. How did they get that out of this quiz? I'm not so sure about the "optimistic" and "almost always happy"; I tend to think I'm more on the "realistic" and "trying not to get down" side... Of course, I've had a few blows in the past few years. And on the other hand, faith certainly helps with optimism and joy!

Relaxation

"Paper dolls" for the refreshment of the spirit. I loved this background. I would love to be standing in that creek for a bit, but then I'd want to walk to the deck of the cabin, where I could sip coffee or tea, read and write. And when the family came back to the cabin, we'd have dinner and then have Some-mores by the camp-fire outside.

HT to another Margaret - of Minnesota Mom, as hers was the first place I saw this "Meez".

If you want to do this, too, you can click here.

What Flavor Frapuccino Are You?

Did this quiz just for fun! I've been seriously thinking of giving up caffeine (again).

Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino

Smooth and sweet, you fit in to almost any crowd. No one would suspect you of being a coffee tweaker!

Book Title Meme - Revisited

Received a call from my sister, who has watched Wheel of Fortune, unlike me. Apparently that's why she picked up that I had not done the title meme the way Nick had intended. She then went to his blog to see, and sent me this from Nick's comments: "Thanks to everyone who has participated so far. One thing this exercise has taught me is that I need to be more clear in my instructions. I should have said that the last word of the first title needs to be the same as the first word of the second title, as in The Last Don Quixote (The Last Don and Don Quixote), or Love2Learn's The Man Who Knew Too Much Ado about Nothing (The ManWho Knew Too Much and Much Ado about Nothing). Still, it's been fun so far and I've enjoyed reading everyone's titles."

So, here are some from titles my sister Chris:
The Return of the King Lear
The Incredible Journey to the Center of the Earth
The Swiss Family Robinson Crusoe
Big Red Badge of Courage
Treasure Island of the Blue Dolphins
